We traded the rat race for the tranquillity of Kaapsehoop in 1989, when we became the proud owners of a rare private farm on this stretch of the Drakenberg escarpment. This is where we married and raised our twins, Frans and Kyra, and where Wessel’s three older kids, Iwan, Gregor and Maryke, find wonderful respite from their busy lives.
Ira retired from her private practice as clinical psychologist some ten years ago.
We bought the farm from a company that decided to close its chrysotile mine after it had flooded in the wake of an illegal strike. Years of negotiations have finally paid off and rehabilitation of the old mine dump is expected to commence early in 2014.
We are blessed with an enviable lifestyle, and enjoy sharing our calm, unpretentious haven with nature lovers who need a break from the big city.
We can’t wait to welcome you to our piece of paradise!
